Biography

Abbas Khani-Hanjani completed his PhD in Experimental Medicine (Immunology) at the University of British Columbia. He attended medical school at the University of Calgary and trained in the Cardiac Surgery residency program at the University of Alberta. He has a fellowship in heart-lung transplantation and a two-year fellowship in Mechanical Circulatory Support and Aortic Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. His clinical research interests focus on improving patient care by studying outcomes and quality control data, and he is also interested in the genetic basis of heart disease to identify modifiable risk factors and new therapeutic targets. He holds a certification from the Royal College of Canada in Cardiovascular Surgery and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He is passionate about being part of the Cardiac Surgery Division at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon and contributing to the team's goals in both academic and clinical settings. In his free time, he enjoys the peacefulness of the outdoors and appreciating nature.
