Generate a tailored SOP for Dr. Abbigail Elms. Improve your application with a focused, well-structured draft.
Abbigail Elms is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Astronomy & Astrophysics group at the University of Warwick. Her research focuses on ancient white dwarfs, magnetic white dwarfs, and flux calibration using white dwarfs with the Hubble Space Telescope and James Webb Space Telescope. Through her work, she utilizes data from sources such as Gaia and Pan-STARRS and instruments like the X-shooter at the Very Large Telescope to study the local population of white dwarfs and their atmospheric parameters. Elms aims to understand the chemical composition of ultra-cool white dwarfs, which are often the remnants of the oldest stars in the Milky Way that have been polluted by metal-rich debris from surrounding planetary systems. She has engaged in numerous outreach and teaching activities, including roles as a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant and Exam Invigilator in the Department of Physics. Abbigail has been active in promoting diversity and inclusivity in physics through various initiatives during her time as President of the Physics Society at the University of Portsmouth.
