Biography

Abby Innes is an Associate Professor in Political Economy at the European Institute of the London School of Economics. Since joining LSE in 1997, she has contributed significantly to the understanding of political economy in Central Europe and the various forms of state governance. Her work explores themes such as state capture, neoliberalism, and comparative political economy. She has published extensively, including books such as 'Czechoslovakia: Short Goodbye' and 'Late Soviet Britain: Materialist Utopias Fail'. Innes has also held fellowships at MIT and the European University Institute. She has been awarded multiple teaching prizes for her innovative approach to courses on Varieties of Capitalism and Political Economy. Her research interests include the political economy of emerging markets, financialization, and the green transition in Europe. Currently, she serves as the Teaching Chair at the European Institute and continues to engage in research and public lectures that reflect her expertise in the political economy of transitional states and neoliberalism.
