Dr. Abby Wong

Biography

Abby Wong, MD, is a general surgeon who cares for patients with conditions such as appendicitis, cholecystitis, and small bowel obstruction, particularly in an intensive care unit (ICU) setting. She performs various types of surgeries, including open, laparoscopic, and robotic techniques, based on patient preferences and shared decision-making. Motivated by her experiences with health inequity, Dr. Wong developed an interest in surgical care accessibility, especially in under-resourced areas. She has worked in surgical ICUs in sub-Saharan Africa and is dedicated to the collaborative care model that ICUs necessitate, involving multiple specialties to enhance patient outcomes. Dr. Wong values her role at Yale New Haven Hospital and Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, Connecticut, where she builds strong relationships with patients in her community, committed to delivering surgical services aligned with community health missions.
