Abdenour Soufi is a Group Leader and Chancellor’s Fellow at the MRC Centre for Regenerative Medicine, University of Edinburgh. He obtained his PhD from the University of Bristol, where he worked in the Department of Biochemistry. Following his doctoral studies, Dr. Soufi held postdoctoral positions at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Birmingham. His research focuses on chromatin structure and cellular identity, particularly the reprogramming of human cells into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells). Dr. Soufi is dedicated to improving the efficiency of cellular reprogramming methods and designing safe synthetic factors for clinical use. His work aims to better understand how naturally occurring reprogramming factors interact with the genome to facilitate the conversion of cells into specific cell types. He is particularly interested in the factors Oct4, Sox2, Klf4, and c-Myc (OSKM) and their roles in reprogramming fibroblasts into iPS cells.
