Biography

Professor Abdul Basit is a pharmacist trained with a PhD in Pharmaceutics. He is a UCL academic, inventor, and entrepreneur recognized as a world-leading authority in oral drug delivery, microbiome medicine, additive manufacturing, and digital health. He has founded four biotechnology companies (FABRX, Kuecept, FABRX AI, Intract Pharma) and invented best-in-class drug delivery technologies, successfully commercializing new medicines, such as Asacol 1600. His research group has pioneered the field of Pharmaceutical 3D printing, bringing transformative technology to hospitals, community pharmacies, and the pharmaceutical industry with real-world clinical impact, benefiting millions of patients annually. Abdul serves as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Pharmaceutics, a leading journal in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Throughout his career, he has received several prestigious awards, including the AAPS Young Investigator Award for Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology, the GlaxoSmithKline Innovative Science Award, the AstraZeneca Science Award, and the 2022 Harrison Memorial Medal for outstanding achievements in Pharmaceutical Sciences. In 2019, he was ranked among the World's Highly Influential Researchers by Clarivate.
