Biography

Abenaa Jones is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at Penn State College of Health and Human Development. Her research focuses on syndemic substance use disorders, violence, sexual risk behaviors, and HIV/STIs, specifically evaluating structural behavioral interventions aimed at reducing substance use-related harms. She is currently accepting graduate students and is involved in several projects addressing the opioid epidemic, examining racial differences in opioid overdose and exploring the treatment of opioid use disorder among women in the criminal justice system. Jones holds a B.S. in Public Community Health from the University of Maryland and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the University of Florida. Her work has produced significant insights into the intersectionality of substance use, violence, and health outcomes for women involved in the criminal justice system. She has received numerous awards for her research and has contributed to various significant grants in her field.
