Dr. Abhijit Sarkar

Biography

Abhijit Sarkar is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carleton University, specializing in Structural Engineering. He holds a D.Phil. from the University of Oxford and has extensive research experience in uncertainty quantification, dynamics, probabilistic mechanics, and high-performance computing. Professor Sarkar’s work involves linear and non-linear solvers, stochastic finite element methods, and Bayesian inference. He has contributed significantly to the field through teaching various courses, including Engineering Mechanics, Structural Analysis, and Estimation and Identification of Dynamics using Data. He is also engaged in research that applies probabilistic machine learning and statistical methods to engineering problems. His laboratory focuses on the development of advanced modeling techniques that support structural engineering applications, and he has supervised many graduate research students in related fields. Sarkar’s work enhances the understanding of complex systems and improves design methodologies in civil engineering.
