Dr. Abhijit Sarkar

Biography

Abhijit Sarkar is a Professor of Structural Engineering and a Canada Research Professor at Carleton University. His extensive research focuses on dynamics, probabilistic mechanics, uncertainty quantification, and advanced computational techniques such as high-performance computing and Bayesian inference. He has made significant contributions in the areas of stochastic finite element methods and nonlinear filtering, and he studies large-scale systems to better understand their behaviors and predict their responses under various conditions. In addition to his research, Professor Sarkar is committed to teaching and guiding graduate research students in various courses related to engineering mechanics, structural analysis, and systems identification, among others. He holds a D.Phil. from Oxford University and has also completed his M.Sc. at the Indian Institute of Science and B.E. at Calcutta. Throughout his career, he has been dedicated to advancing the knowledge within the field of civil and environmental engineering, providing crucial insights into the methodologies that enhance the understanding of uncertainty in engineering applications.
