Biography

Abhra Sarkar joined the University of Texas at Austin faculty in 2017 as an assistant professor. He was previously a postdoctoral research associate at Duke University. His research interests center on the development of novel statistical approaches to aid the study of complex real-world phenomena, providing new insights related to scientific queries with broader general utility. Problems arise in a diverse array of application areas, especially nutritional epidemiology and auditory and vocal communication neuroscience. Sarkar was the 2018 recipient of the Mitchell Prize, and his work has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the American Statistical Association.
