Biography

Abigail Azari is an Assistant Professor jointly appointed in the Department of Physics and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alberta, Canada. She holds a PhD in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Space Science from the University of Michigan, where she also completed her Master’s degree. Dr. Azari has received prestigious fellowships including the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship and the NASA Earth and Space Science Fellowship. Her research focuses on Machine Learning, Bayesian Statistics, and their applications in Space Physics and Planetary Science, particularly in the areas of planetary magnetospheres and space plasmas. She aims to advance scientific discovery in space science through the integration of machine intelligence and addressing challenges in uncertainty quantification. Currently, she also serves as a CIFAR AI Chair and a Research Fellow at the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute. Her professional experience includes post-doctoral positions at UC Berkeley's Space Sciences Lab and the University of British Columbia, in addition to earlier research roles at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
