Biography

Abigail Barker is an Associate Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at Uppsala University. She earned her Ph.D. from the Danish Lithosphere Centre and the University of Copenhagen in 2006, after completing her M.Sc. in Geological Sciences at the University of Durham, UK. Her research interests include Geochemistry, Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology, and Ocean Island Basalts. Additionally, she researches the geochemistry and hydrothermal alteration of oceanic crust, studying locations such as the Cape Verde hotspot and the East Pacific Rise. Barker’s educational research focuses on learning behaviors, teamwork skills, and Problem-Based Learning in geoscience education, highlighting how qualitative insights can enhance students' learning experiences. She is also involved in the Nordic network for Geoscience Education Research, promoting collaboration among educators in the region.
