Biography

Abigail Bodner joined the Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences (EAPS) faculty in 2024, with a shared appointment in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS). She earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Tel Aviv University, where she studied mathematics, geophysics, and atmospheric planetary sciences. She then attended Brown University, earning a Master of Science in applied mathematics and completing her PhD in 2021 in Earth, environmental, and planetary science. Before arriving at MIT, Bodner was a Simons Society Junior Fellow working with Dr. Laure Zanna at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University. Her research focuses on understanding turbulence and its role in coastal sea level drivers using numerical simulations, climate models, and machine learning. She has a keen interest in the mathematical descriptions of fluid motion and its applications in physical oceanography and geophysical fluid dynamics.
