Biography

Abigail Brundin is a Professor in the Department of Italian at the University of Cambridge, specializing in literature and culture of Italy during the Renaissance and early modern periods. She has been a lecturer in the Department of Italian since 2002 and is a Fellow of St Catharine’s College since 2000. Her research focuses on women writers from the age of print, including figures such as Vittoria Colonna, as well as literature related to religious reform and the devotional culture of the home. Brundin's work has been widely recognized, notably through her role as Principal Investigator on the interdisciplinary project 'Domestic Devotions: Place Piety in the Italian Renaissance Home, 1400-1600', which received a £2.4 million Synergy Grant from the European Research Council and led to a major exhibition at the Fitzwilliam Museum. She regularly collaborates with the National Trust and English Heritage on historic libraries in English country houses. In her teaching, she supervises doctoral research with a special focus on women writers and religious devotional culture, particularly through the lens of Renaissance literature.
