Abigail Nieves Delgado is an Associate Professor at the Freudenthal Institute, Utrecht University. Her research focuses on the history and philosophy of life sciences and physical anthropology, with a primary aim of addressing issues of racism in science and society. She studies racialization practices in the history of science and contemporary biomedical research, including areas such as microbiome research and epigenetics, as well as the implications of biometric technologies like facial recognition. In addition to her research, she teaches widely on the history and philosophy of science and offers courses on scientific integrity and the values underpinning scientific inquiry. Before joining Utrecht University, she worked at Wageningen University in the Netherlands and Ruhr University Bochum in Germany, as well as the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where she earned her Ph.D. in 2016. Delgado is also involved in several collaborative research groups focused on global epistemologies and ontologies, and is the principal investigator of a project examining the intersection of microbiome research and race.
