Abigail Vieregg is a Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Chicago, where she also serves as the Director of the Kavli Institute for Cosmological Physics. She received her A.B. from Dartmouth College in 2004 and completed her Ph.D. at UCLA in 2010. Prior to her current position, Vieregg was a postdoctoral fellow at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics from 2010 to 2013, supported by the NSF Office of Polar Programs. Her research focuses on building radio and millimeter-wave experiments to explore neutrino astrophysics and cosmology, specifically related to the cosmic microwave background. She is the principal investigator for the PUEO RNO-G project, which involves balloon-borne and ground-based radio detectors designed to capture ultra-high-energy neutrinos. Vieregg has been involved with significant projects such as the BICEP and South Pole Telescope, and the future CMB-S4 experiment, aimed at observing the cosmic microwave background. Her contributions to the field have been recognized with several awards, including the Shakti Duggal Award, Sloan Research Fellowship, NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Technology Fellowship, and the Cottrell Scholar Award. Vieregg was honored to receive the PECASE award and frequently engages in teaching and mentoring activities at the University of Chicago.
