Dr. Abigail Winkel

Biography

Abigail Winkel, MD, MHPE, is a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at NYU School of Medicine. Her scholarly work emphasizes enhancing women's health care education throughout the continuum, including medical school, residency, and fellowship. As the healthcare landscape evolves, Dr. Winkel has recognized the increasing importance of physicians possessing resilience and the motivation for lifelong learning, as well as the skills required for effective self-assessment. She has created and studied innovative educational tools that emphasize the development and teaching of Narrative Medicine workshops aimed at students, residents, and fellows. Dr. Winkel also leads structured programs for physician wellness, targeting both trainees and faculty development. She has a particular interest in transitions from medical student to resident, co-directing the Transition Residency Course at NYU School of Medicine. This weeklong course assists graduating medical students in preparing for their roles as interns in their respective specialties, with a specific focus on obstetrics and gynecology.
