Biography

Abiodun Alao is a Professor of African Studies at the African Leadership Centre, where he teaches MSc programmes and supervises postgraduate students. He is the Chair of the Centre’s Examination Board and the Acting Chair of the School of Global Affairs Exam Board. He holds a BA in History and an MA in International Relations from the Universities of Ibadan and Ife, respectively. He obtained his Doctorate in War Studies from King’s College London and was a Ford Foundation Doctoral Scholar. He has held various teaching and research positions, including at Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria and as a Visiting Research Associate at the University of Zimbabwe. He has also served as a Visiting Professor at the Nigerian Defence Academy. His research interests include Emerging Powers, Global Leadership, Politics, Natural Resources Management, Religious Radicalization, Political Violence, and International Relations within Africa. He has authored extensive publications on African security issues and has worked with international organizations including the United Nations and World Bank. Some notable contributions include a comprehensive Threat Assessment for the Rwanda genocide and advisory roles for the UN Secretary-General on the Sierra Leone Civil War.
