Biography

Abir Al-Tabbaa graduated from Bristol University with MPhil and PhD degrees in Civil Engineering, specializing in Soil Mechanics. She has worked as a geotechnical engineer at Ove Arup & Partners Consulting Engineers with involvement in significant projects including the Embankment Place and various power stations. Al-Tabbaa started her academic career as a lecturer in Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Birmingham and returned to Cambridge University as a University Lecturer and now a Professor. She is a fellow of Sidney Sussex College, Chartered Engineer, and a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers. She has served on several committees and panels related to geotechnical engineering and received the Reed Mallik Medal for her work on soil treatment. Her research interests include intelligent infrastructure materials, self-healing materials, and ground improvement technologies. Al-Tabbaa is also engaged in multiple ongoing projects and serves on editorial boards and technical committees related to her field of expertise.
