Biography

Achim Hurrelmann is a Professor of Political Science and Co-Director of the Centre for European Studies at Carleton University. He has degrees from the University of Hamburg and the University of Bremen. His research focuses on the politics of the European Union, particularly political discourses surrounding European integration, democracy, and the legitimacy of the EU, as well as Canada-Europe relations. He has published extensively in leading journals in the field and contributed to notable works, including a textbook on EU politics aimed at a Canadian audience. Hurrelmann has been involved in various research projects and has received grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Canada. He has taught courses on EU politics and comparative politics, winning multiple teaching awards for his work. His recent research examines the implications of Brexit on Canada-Europe relations and is supported by the SSHRC Insight Grant. He is also active in the academic community as President of the European Community Association – Canada.
