Biography

Ad Ragas’ expertise lies in modeling human environmental risks from chemical substances such as microplastics and pharmaceutical residues. He focuses on assessing the uncertainties involved in European research projects related to environmental risks of these substances. Ad Ragas studied biology and obtained his PhD degree from Radboud University Nijmegen. He currently holds a position as a full professor in Human Ecological Risk Assessment within the Environmental Science Cluster at Radboud University. His main expertise is in modeling human ecological risks related to chemicals, particularly (micro)plastics, with a focus on quantifying and assessing uncertainty. Furthermore, he is the head of the Environmental Science Cluster and director of the educational institute for Biosciences. Ragas teaches academic courses on risk assessment, GIS, and statistics. He regularly participates in advisory working groups on risk assessment of chemicals, including the European Food & Safety Authority (EFSA) and the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).
