Biography

Ada Smailbegovic is an Associate Professor of English whose research explores the intersections of poetry, history, science, and environmental literature with feminist and queer theories. She investigates materiality, critical refugee epistemologies, animal studies, and affect theory, focusing on practices of observation, experimentation, and description that highlight the structure of forms and their interaction with the material world. Smailbegovic's notable works include 'Poetics of Liveliness: Molecules, Fibers, Tissues, Clouds,' published by Columbia University in 2021, and the poetry collection 'Cloud Notebook' from Litmus Press in 2023. Her book received an honorable mention for the Matei Calinescu Prize from the Modern Language Association. Currently, she is engaged in theoretical projects that address ecological scales of time and displacement, with a forthcoming collection titled 'Snail Cinema Blue Plums Memory Sea,' which captures the ephemeralities of refugee experiences. Her academic affiliations include the Centre for Expanded Poetics at Concordia University, Montreal, Canada.
