Biography

Adam Ackerman, MD, FACP, serves as the Medical Director for Patient Safety, Accreditation, and Regulatory Affairs at Yale New Haven Health. In this role, he leads system-wide strategies to advance patient safety, ensure regulatory compliance, and maintain readiness for accreditation surveys. His work focuses on closing the loop on safety events through integrating data-driven corrective actions and fostering a culture of transparency and continuous improvement within the health system. Dr. Ackerman's contributions to opioid stewardship and safe prescribing practices have been nationally recognized. He spearheaded the development of a new inpatient opioid prescribing standard that emphasizes oral and subcutaneous administration whenever possible, significantly reducing risk and improving patient outcomes. An active-duty physician in the United States Air Force, Dr. Ackerman earned his MD from Tufts University School of Medicine, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed his internal medicine residency at Keesler Medical Center. Since joining Yale New Haven Hospital in 2015, he has served as Associate Director of Hospital Medicine, leading initiatives to improve patient length of stay, enhance quality of documentation, and eliminate barriers to clinician efficiency. He actively engages in clinical teaching as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine.
