Adam Birchfield is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University. He completed his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at Texas A&M University in 2018, as well as his M.S. in Electrical Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2016, and his B.E.E. in Electrical Engineering at Auburn University in 2014. His research interests focus on power system modeling, computational analysis of power systems, and the impacts of extreme events on power systems. Birchfield is especially engaged in the development of synthetic power grid datasets and exploring the dynamics and stability of power systems. His work has received recognition, including the National Science Foundation CAREER Award for 2025 and the Thomas W. Powell ’62 Powell Industries Inc. Fellowship at Texas A&M University, as well as the Grainger Power Engineering Award from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
