Adam Huw Bourne is a Visiting Professorial Fellow at the Kirby Institute, UNSW Sydney, and holds a directorship at the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society (ARCSHS) at La Trobe University. He has a background in Health Psychology, having completed his BSc (Hons) and PhD. Before relocating to Australia in 2017, he worked for a decade with the Sigma Research group at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, where he led national and international qualitative studies on HIV risk prevention behaviors, particularly among gay and bisexual men. His research focuses on the health and well-being of LGBTIQ populations, examining the social determinants of health including alcohol and drug use, mental health, and family violence. He has also been involved in various international collaborations and community-based research projects addressing HIV-related health issues in low- and middle-income contexts. Currently, he serves as Co-Chair of the Victorian Whole Government LGBTIQ Taskforce and sits on the Board of Directors for Thorne Harbour Health. Additionally, he has acted as an advisor for various organizations including UNAIDS and the World Bank.
