Adam Brown is an internationally recognized conceptual artist whose work incorporates art-science hybrids, living biological systems, robotics, and emerging technologies. His creative research is informed by a background in Intermedia and philosophy, providing a framework for breaking and combining models of thought across disparate disciplines. This leads to the establishment of new forms of research and creative activity. Brown's recent collaborative project, Great Work of Metal Lover (with Dr. Kazem Kashefi), explores the intersection of art, science, and alchemy. His 2011 piece was selected for the Ars Electronica Synth-ethic exhibition in Vienna, and he received a National Science Foundation grant in 2012 to continue his project with Dr. Root-Bernstein. Brown also works on interactive installations that reference primordial biological energy, including a project called Bion, consisting of a network of autonomous robots. Currently, he is an Associate Professor at Michigan State University, where he created a new area of study called Electronic Art & Intermedia. Previously, he served as Associate Professor at the University of Oklahoma and developed an electronic art program called Symbiotic Media. His work has been featured in notable publications such as New York Wired, Nature, and Sculpture Magazine.
