Biography

Adam Cooper is an Associate Professor at University College London in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Public Policy (STEaPP) program. With a strong background in applied interdisciplinary social science, Adam has over ten years of direct experience in the UK Civil Service. His research primarily focuses on engineering policy, particularly the use of technical advice in energy policy and developing innovative field methods for socio-technical research. Since the establishment of the STEaPP in 2013, Adam has been instrumental in integrating social science into engineering decision-making. Before joining UCL, he served as Head of Social Science Engagement at the UK Government's Department of Energy and Climate Change and led the Culture and Sport Evidence Program at the Department of Culture, Media, and Sport. Adam's early career involved significant contributions to strategies aimed at addressing child poverty and workforce development in children's social care. He holds a PhD in Cognitive Neuropsychology from the University of Birmingham, an MSc in Cognitive Science from the University of Edinburgh, and a BSc in Psychology from the University of Stirling.
