Biography

Adam Dale is an Associate Professor of Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology at the University of Southampton, actively involved in the Southampton Controlled Human Infection Group (CHIG) and serving as an Honorary Consultant at University Hospital Southampton specializing in the management of transplant-associated infections. His research primarily focuses on understanding the immunological mechanisms that provide protection against respiratory tract pathobionts, especially through the use of controlled human infection models. Dale has led studies on the development of new vaccines, utilizing various strains of Neisseria lactamica and Bordetella pertussis to better understand immune responses and potential therapeutic strategies. He completed his medical training at the University of Leeds, earning a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) with honors in 2010, followed by a PhD at the University of Southampton in 2021. His work has been recognized with a Wellcome Trust Doctoral Training Fellowship and the Royal College of Physicians membership. Since his appointment, he has contributed to undergraduate and postgraduate education in the fields of infectious diseases and medical microbiology, further enhancing the research and teaching capabilities of his department.
