Dr. Adam Green

Biography

Adam Green is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Chicago. His areas of study include Modern History, African American History, Urban History, Comparative Racial Politics, and Cultural Economy. He holds a PhD from Yale University, awarded in 1998. Green has contributed significantly to the scholarly discourse on African American activism and culture. His notable publications include 'Selling Race: Culture Community Black Chicago, 1940–1955,' published by the University of Chicago Press in 2007, which examines the complexities of race and cultural identity in mid-20th century Chicago. He also coedited 'Time Longer than Rope: Studies in African American Activism, 1850–1950,' a critical exploration of the historical narratives surrounding African American social movements, released by New York University Press in 2003. His work has engaged with contemporary issues, including racial politics, as evidenced by his participation in discussions regarding significant historical events such as the 1919 Chicago Race Riots. As a Senior Fellow at the Society Fellows Liberal Arts College, he actively contributes to the academic community at the University of Chicago and beyond through his research and public engagement.
