Biography

Dr. Adam Hines is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Computational Modelling and Biorobotics at Macquarie University and a Visiting Fellow at the Queensland University of Technology Centre for Robotics. His research focuses on the intersection of neuroscience and robotics, creating bio-inspired solutions for real-world challenges. Currently, he is working in the laboratory of Prof. Andrew Barron at Macquarie University within the School of Natural Sciences and has collaborations at the QUT Centre for Robotics hosted by Dr. Tobias Fischer. Dr. Hines received his PhD in neuroscience from the University of Queensland in 2023 and holds undergraduate degrees in Medical Science with first-class honours from the University of New South Wales (2013-2016). In 2022, he was awarded the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship, undertaking a six-month research programme with Prof. Roderic Eckenhoff at the University of Pennsylvania. His current research focuses on modeling action selection processes and studying honeybee behavior in decision-making tasks as part of an Australian Research Council Discovery Project. Dr. Hines has previously worked on bio-inspired robotics and autonomous localization systems, funded by the Intel Neuromorphic Research Community and the Australia-US Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative. He is deeply committed to the broader research community, serving as Deputy Chair of the Australasian Neuroscience Society’s Student Body Committee and as an Associate Faculty member of H1 Connect.
