Dr. Adam Lewandowski

Biography

Adam Lewandowski is an Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Science at the University of Oxford, where he serves as a Deputy Chief Scientist at the UK Biobank. He completed his undergraduate studies in biological sciences at the University of Guelph in Canada, followed by a Master’s degree in Healthcare Data from the University of Cambridge. He earned his DPhil in Cardiovascular Medicine from the University of Oxford, completing it in 2013. Following his doctoral research, he conducted postdoctoral work in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Oxford, during which he was awarded a British Heart Foundation Intermediate Basic Science Research Fellowship. His research primarily focuses on utilizing multi-modality and deep phenotyping approaches to identify early cardiac and vascular changes in young individuals at risk for cardiovascular disease. This includes studying the impact of early life developmental conditions, such as being born preterm or experiencing hypertensive pregnancy, on long-term cardiovascular structure and function, particularly under physiological stress. Adam joined the UK Biobank scientific team in April 2024, contributing to the development of scientific strategies for future enhancements of the study and the Brain Health study, along with cohort-wide repeat assessments.
