Adam McMahon studied at the University of Oxford, the University of Bristol, and Dalhousie University in Canada, where he earned a B.A. (Hons) in Chemistry, an M.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry, and a Ph.D. in Chemistry. He became a Harwell-Wolfson Research Fellow in 1988 at the UKAEA's Harwell Laboratory and Wolfson College, Oxford. In 1991, he was appointed Manager of Research Development at AEA Technology's Analytical Sciences Centre in Harwell. McMahon joined the Wolfson Molecular Imaging Centre in January 2005 and worked for 12 years as a Senior Lecturer at the Manchester Metropolitan University. His research interests focus on the development of trace analytical methods and instrumentation based on mass spectrometry and laser spectroscopy. He is currently involved in imaging MALDI mass spectrometry of tissue samples, developing and using radio-labelled molecules for Positron Emission Tomography, and product quality control through metabolite analysis and automated chemistry rigs for remote PET radiotracer synthesis. McMahon is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry as a Chartered Chemist and of the Institute of Physics, actively contributing to various professional committees.
