Dr. Adam Molnar

Biography

Adam Molnar is an Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo in the Department of Sociology and Legal Studies. His research primarily focuses on the intersections of technology, surveillance, security, and governance, particularly in the context of workplace surveillance and digital economy. He is currently leading a SSHRC-funded project that investigates employee monitoring applications and their implications for surveillance in remote workplaces. Molnar actively collaborates with an interdisciplinary team comprising experts from sociology, law, computer science, and human rights organizations. His extensive publication record includes discussions on security governance, the commodification of surveillance technologies, and the implications of policing practices in contemporary society. Molnar holds a PhD in Political Science with a focus on Cultural Social Political Thought from the University of Victoria, where he also completed his MA in Sociology. He additionally earned a BA in Sociology and Political Science from York University. His academic contributions also extend to the SSHRC Partnership Grant for cyber security research and various insight grants for scrutinizing the regulation of surveillance technologies. He has been recognized for excellence in research, teaching, and service with the University of Waterloo Outstanding Performance Award in 2020.
