Biography

Adam Molnar is an Associate Professor in Sociology and Legal Studies at the University of Waterloo. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Victoria, where he also completed his Master’s degree in Sociology. His research interests are focused on technology, surveillance, security, policing, and governance. Molnar is currently involved in significant interdisciplinary research, including a five-year SSHRC-funded project that investigates the risks associated with workplace surveillance in Canada’s digital economy. This project examines employee monitoring applications, exploring how they impact workplace boundaries as homes increasingly double as offices. He collaborates with experts in sociology, law, computer science, and human rights, enhancing the breadth of his research. Alongside this, he is also a Co-Investigator on multiple grants, including a partnership grant exploring the human-centric aspects of cybersecurity. He has authored numerous publications addressing the implications of surveillance technologies and governance, contributing to academic discourse on policing practices and security intelligence in contemporary society.
