Biography

Adam Swift is a Professor of Political Theory and Political Philosophy at University College London. He has worked on a wide range of issues related to political theory and political philosophy, with notable works including "Beginners’ Guide to Political Philosophy" which has been translated into nine languages. His recent research interests combine normative philosophy with empirical sociology, particularly focusing on debates surrounding equality of opportunity and the intersection of education and family dynamics. Prior to joining UCL in 2018, Adam held academic positions at the University of Oxford and the University of Warwick, where he contributed significantly to the field, including serving as the founding director of Oxford's Centre for the Study of Social Justice. He is also an Associate Editor for the journal 'Free & Equal: A Journal of Ethics and Public Affairs' and sits on the editorial boards of several academic publications. Adam is currently on research leave until January 2026.
