Dr. Adam Zimmerman

Biography

Adam Zimmerman is the Robert Kingsley Professor of Law at USC Gould School of Law, having joined from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles. He teaches Tort Law, Civil Procedure, Administrative Law, and Mass Tort Law, and his scholarship examines the roles of class action attorneys and regulatory agencies, highlighting how these entities provide justice to large groups of people through the intersecting fields of tort law, administrative law, and procedural law. His recent publications include influential articles in prestigious journals such as the Chicago Law Review, Columbia Law Review, and Yale Law Journal. Notably, his work has impacted aggregate litigation and has been cited in amicus briefs that have swayed court decisions and influenced governmental agency practices, such as his recommendations that allowed class actions in administrative hearings. His teaching methodology has been recognized by national media, and he has received accolades such as New Law Professor in 2011 and Professor of the Year in 2013 and 2022. Zimmerman graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center, where he served as an associate editor for the Georgetown Law Journal and co-founded the student chapter of the American Constitutional Society. After graduation, he clerked for Judge Jack B. Weinstein in the Eastern District of New York and served as counsel to Special Master Kenneth R. Feinberg in administering the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, subsequently working at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, where he focused on complex commercial litigation and mass tort cases.
