Dr. Adeen Flinker

Biography

Adeen Flinker is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology at New York University. He has an academic background rooted in undergraduate training in Computer Science from Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, and a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of California at Berkeley. His postdoctoral research was completed at New York University, where he focused on non-invasive measures of speech sounds. In 2017, Flinker joined NYU School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Neurology and holds appointments at the NYU Neuroscience Institute, NYU Biomedical Engineering, and NYU Cognition and Perception. His research endeavors are directed towards understanding the electrophysiology of language perception and production. The Flinker lab emphasizes collaborative research involving rare neurosurgical patients undergoing treatment for refractory epilepsy, utilizing techniques such as EEG and fMRI to explore cognitive tasks in patients with implanted intracranial electrodes. This unique clinical setting provides insights into the basic questions surrounding human capabilities of perception and production of speech and language.
