Dr. Aditi Mehta

Biography

Aditi Mehta is an Assistant Professor in the Urban Studies Program at the University of Toronto. Her academic work focuses on participatory action research, examining how communities affected by urban policies can engage with research processes as co-creators of knowledge. She emphasizes the importance of social change pedagogy, reflecting on the collaborative production of knowledge with community partners. Aditi's research critically investigates issues of discrimination, inequality, and resource divestment in marginalized urban communities, aiming to identify innovative social and technological infrastructure to address these disparities. She has received the Social Science Humanities Research Council Partnership Engagement Grant to implement participatory action research courses, collaborating with youths and non-profits like FOCUS Media Arts. Aditi completed her PhD at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she focused on the politics of community media in post-disaster urban environments and was awarded the department's outstanding dissertation prize.
