Professor Aditya Sood holds a joint appointment at the Mechanical Aerospace Engineering department and the Princeton Materials Institute (PMI). His research interests encompass nanoscale thermal transport, nanoelectronics, and ultrafast science, specifically in visualizing how materials respond at fast timescales to external stimuli. He aims to understand the dynamic behavior of materials for applications in energy-efficient computing, energy harvesting, and energy storage. Questions that guide his research include how to actively control heat flow at the atomic scale, and how to capture transient states of materials using atomic-scale 'movies'. His group is involved in addressing interdisciplinary problems in energy computing, emphasizing the understanding of physical phenomena. Apart from conducting experimental research at Princeton, his team actively uses advanced electron and X-ray sources available at national laboratories across the country. Professor Sood completed his Ph.D. at Stanford University in Materials Science and Engineering and holds a bachelor's degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. He has also completed postdoctoral work in Electrical Engineering at Stanford and as a Research Scientist at the Stanford Institute for Materials and Energy Sciences. He joined the faculty at Princeton in January 2023.
