Dr. Adnan Hossain

Biography

Adnan Hossain is an interdisciplinary scholar committed to bridging theory and practice, particularly as it relates to gender and sexual diversity. He has previously held positions as a Postdoctoral Fellow funded by the European Research Council at the University of Amsterdam and as an Assistant Professor of Gender Studies and Critical Theory at Utrecht University. Hossain is a founding member of the Glasgow Lab for Intersex, Non-binary, and Trans Studies (GLINTS) and serves as a college representative on university-wide equality groups. His research interests include gender and sexual diversity, masculinities, transgender and intersex studies, body politics, and postcolonial studies. He has authored significant work, including a book on hijra identities in Bangladesh, and is currently leading projects addressing trans political activism in the Global South. Hossain has also conducted extensive media engagement, sharing insights on gender identities through interviews and presentations at various international conferences. His work critically examines the structures of power influencing gender and sexuality in South Asia and beyond, focusing on the interplay of culture, politics, and identity.
