Biography

Adnan Husain is an Associate Professor and Queen's National Scholar at Queen's University in the Department of History. He specializes in the Medieval Mediterranean and Islamic World, with significant expertise in inter-religious encounters and cultural exchanges between Muslims, Christians, and Jews during the tenth to fifteenth centuries. His scholarly contributions focus on the religious phenomena of Medieval Catholicism and Islam, with a specific interest in Franciscan spirituality and Sufi mystical traditions. He has published several articles and is currently completing a study titled 'Identity Polemics: Encounters Islam Medieval Mediterranean World (1150-1300).' Husain co-edited a collection entitled 'Faithful Sea: Religious Cultures Mediterranean, 1200-1700,' and is actively working on the cultural history of Qur'an translation as well as the intellectual and religious culture of Muslim diasporic minorities in late Medieval and Early Modern contexts. Additionally, he engages in public discourse on Islamic issues in Europe and North America through his co-hosting of the weekly program 'Radio Bandung' at Queen's campus radio station CFRC 101.9 FM.
