Dr. Adnan Vatansever

Biography

Adnan Vatansever is a Reader at King’s Russia Institute at King's College London, specializing in Russian political economy. He brings a wealth of industry knowledge and experience from his previous positions, including senior associate in the energy climate program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and as a consultant for the World Bank and the U.S. Department of Energy. Adnan holds a PhD from the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University and an M.A. from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. He is proficient in Russian, Bulgarian, Turkish, and English. His research primarily focuses on the political economy of energy and economic policy-making in Russia and Eurasia. Adnan’s recent book, "Oil in Putin’s Russia: Contests, Rents, and Economic Policy", delves into the nuances of resource rent management in contemporary Russia, while his ongoing projects explore themes such as energy security and the implications of economic rents in authoritarian regimes. He actively engages with PhD applicants and has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and contributions regarding energy policy and the geopolitical aspects of energy dynamics in the region.
