Biography

Adnane Sellam is an associate professor in the Department of Microbiology, Infectiology, and Immunology at the University of Montreal, and a researcher at the Montreal Heart Institute. He joined the University of Montreal following a career at Laval University where he served as an associate professor and researcher at CHU de Quebec. He completed two postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Montreal and McGill University/Canadian National Research Council. Dr. Sellam is an expert in genomics and systems biology applied to the study of virulence in pathogenic fungi affecting humans. His research is funded by several provincial (FRQS, CQDM, Merck-Frost) and federal (CIHR, NSERC, CFI) funding agencies. His research program focuses on understanding the biology of opportunistic fungi, particularly Candida albicans and the 'super-resistant' yeast C. auris, to propose new therapeutic targets. Current research themes include studying the influence of hypoxia on pathogenicity and fungal fitness, discovering new antifungal molecules, and analyzing the coordination between growth and cell division in C. albicans.
