Dr. Adonay Guerrero Cortés

Biography

Adonay Guerrero Cortés is a Mexican-Canadian filmmaker, screenwriter, and videographer born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He holds a Master's degree in Film Production from York University, where he developed a thesis project titled 'Hidden Gods.' As an academic, he has served as an adjunct assistant professor in Film Media at Queen's University, contributing notably to the field through both teaching and research. Guerrero was awarded the Joseph-Armand Bombardier CGS Program Master's Scholarships by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. His film works have gained recognition at various international film festivals, including San Diego Comic Con, Edmonton International Film Festival, and Māoriland Film Festival. He has directed several fiction films and documentaries, including 'Making Sones Memories' and 'Distant Altars.' Additionally, he has edited projects for television, including the series 'Battle Scars,' which addresses themes of peace and war. His commitment to storytelling and representation is further exemplified by his recent collaboration on a project aimed at documenting women's contributions to peacebuilding in Africa, which was awarded at the Silverwave Film Festival in 2016.
