Adrian V. Chavana specializes in American Indian Chicana/o/x history, focusing on narratives surrounding Indian survivance, mestizaje, and the politics of recognition. He is currently working on a book titled "Becoming Gente de Razón: San Antonio Mission Indians Descendants." The book critically examines the history and survival of San Antonio Mission Indians and their descendants, challenging prevailing narratives of extinction, particularly during the 19th and 20th centuries. Adrian is also a Bill Rita Clements Fellow at the Southern Methodist University for the academic year 2025-26, where he will complete his manuscript.
