Biography

Professor Adrian Kelly specializes in Ancient Greek Literature and serves as a Tutorial Fellow at Balliol College, University of Oxford. He obtained his DPhil in Classical Languages and Literature from the University of Oxford and has taught at various colleges including Magdalen and St Anne’s. His academic career includes a Junior Research Fellowship at St Anne's and a brief employment at the University of Warwick before returning to Balliol in 2008. His research primarily focuses on the function and evolution of tradition in early Greek poetry from the 8th to 6th centuries BC, as well as the relationship between Athenian tragedy and society in the 5th century BC. Among his publications are commentaries on the Iliad and co-edited works on Sappho and early Greek narratives. He is recognized for his contributions to the understanding of textuality and intertextuality in Greek epic and lyric poetry.
