Biography

Adrian Liston is a Professor of Pathology at the University of Cambridge, focusing on various pathologies, including autoimmunity, primary immunology, diabetes, and neuropathology. He has a distinguished academic background, having trained at Adelaide University and earned his PhD from the Australian National University. Following his doctoral studies, Liston completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Washington. He began his career as an independent researcher at VIB in Belgium, where he led a laboratory alongside Dr. James Dooley for nearly a decade before relocating his lab to the Babraham Institute in 2019. Since 2023, he has returned to the Department of Pathology at Cambridge, where he focuses on developing new therapeutic strategies for neuroinflammation and has set up a spin-off company, Aila Biotech Ltd. His research utilizes both patient samples and animal models to identify common cellular pathways involved in disease pathology. In addition to his research, Liston holds the Francqui Chair, has received the Eppendorf Prize, and is a fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Royal Society of Biology. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of 'Immunology & Cell Biology' and is committed to improving equality of opportunity in scientific career structures, advocating for early career scientists through his writing and outreach efforts.
