Biography

Adrian Piliponsky, PhD, is a principal investigator at the Center for Immunity and Immunotherapeutics at Seattle Children's Research Institute, and an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine. His academic journey began with a bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina, followed by a PhD from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel, where he researched the interactions between mast cells and eosinophils, which are key players in allergic responses. His impactful mentorship from Francesca Levi-Schaffer, PhD, guided his studies on mast cell functionality in vivo, particularly focusing on their deficiencies in various allergic inflammatory disorders. Dr. Piliponsky further honed his expertise during a post-doctoral fellowship at Stanford University under the guidance of Stephen J. Galli, MD, a leading figure in mast cell research. His research interests lie in understanding the roles of mast cells in inflammatory disorders, allergies, and asthma, as well as their importance in regulating immune responses to bacterial infections. Through his lab, Dr. Piliponsky aims to manipulate mast cells to improve innate immunity and develop novel therapies for allergic diseases.
