Biography

Adrian Schwan is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Guelph, specializing in organoSulfur and organoPhosphorus chemistry, as well as small ring heterocycles and pericyclic reactions. He has made significant contributions to synthesis methods of isotopically labelled compounds and lipid surfactants, as well as catalytic stoichiometric transformations in organoMetallic chemistry. Schwan completed his B.Sc. at the University of Western Ontario in 1983 and his Ph.D. at McMaster University in 1988, followed by a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the State University of New York at Albany. He has been an active faculty member since joining the department in July 1989 and was named a Fellow of the Chemical Institute of Canada in June 2009. His commitment to graduate education is reflected in his founding role in the Guelph-Waterloo Centre for Graduate Work in Chemistry and Biochemistry. Schwan's academic journey has included supervising numerous graduate students and mentoring several postdoctoral fellows, contributing to the field through a broad spectrum of research outputs and collaborations within the scientific community.
