Adriana Arcia is a nurse scientist whose research focuses on using infographics and information visualizations to facilitate the understanding of personal health information, particularly for individuals with low health literacy and limited English proficiency. Her projects have been funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR), the National Institute on Aging (NIA), and the Alzheimer’s Association. Currently, she is developing an application to assist family caregivers of individuals with dementia in understanding the functional stages of dementia and connecting them to appropriate resources. Dr. Arcia also leads a Visualization Design Studio that aims to improve the visualization competencies of nursing students and faculty. The Studio holds open monthly meetings where members share practices and provide feedback on ongoing projects.
